As a lot of you know, I got an iPad the other day. I bought a wireless keyboard to go with it, but I'm having trouble doing certain things via the keyboard. For example, going to the top and bottom of webpages is a mystery to me. Am I able to completely run my iPad with my wireless keyboard or is there things I'll have to do on my iPad? I hope this made sense. I apologize if it didn't.:)
Ok there are a few ways to do things with a wireless keyboard and an iPad, iPhone or iPod, or even some iPoodle they haven't come out with yet.
Control and up / down arrows will typically take you to the top or bottom of the page or screen.
Now if you think about Safari, or Chrome if you're running it, you have the top where your status bar is, then you have the address bar and reload button. Then below that you have your text area, and below that you have your buttons like Bookmarks and Pages. I think on the iPad you have a row of tabs there? Not sure, I use the iPhone now.
That middle what we geeks call the client workspace area is what you may be concerned about? To focus to the top of it, I would go control up arrow, then use the right arrow button with quick nav on to go right until you get to the top of the page, - past the reload button and the Google Search text box and any button there.
Now to to the bottm, just do the opposite: control down arrow, and you will be on the last button on the bottom right of your screen. Now left arrow past the buttons into the client workspace area, and it will by necessity have scrolled all the way to the end of your loaded web page or web document.
Hope that helps.
One final thing with these wireless keyboards: It's nice you have some keyboard access to things, but I still find the touch screen to be quicker for some things. If I know where something is, say, 1/3 the way down and in the center, I only need tap there and I'm on it, or close. Beats the left / right gesture with the arrow keys. Then again, I don't like to flick as a means to navigate around, makes me feel a bit like of a creepy crawly earthworm instead of just tap near where I need to be at, like a chopper in for a landing, then focus on what I want from there. Just a suggestions so you're not frustrated by not being able to do things that quick with the wireless keyboard.
With my Braille display I find myself doing that a lot: a couple fingers on the display and use my other hand to gesture on the phone to quickly jump to where I need in the middle or near a fixed point like a side or a top, then use the joystick to move in. Where the flicker or the joystick / arrows comes in handy is when you're catching up with the Facebookin' fools or the peeping Tweeters, or some other long list of things all in a long column, one after the other.
Thank you. That was very helpful.:)
